The ancient Mayans will always be a very important part of history that left a big mark on the modern world. Their religion is classified as polytheistic because they worshiped many Mayan gods. The rituals and worship of the deities were intertwined deeply in to their everyday lives and were an essential part of who the ancient Mayans were. The Mayan culture is attributed to the development of breathtaking pyramids, cities and temples. The discovery of ancient remains and artifacts shows that they created and thrived in many areas of Meso America. Evidence is still being discovered by experts today. Guatemala’s population consists of over 50% Maya. Their pride for their culture is shown daily in a vibrant display of clothing.

Mayan Civilization

If you were to go back to the 1500BC, you could have seen a special and mystical civilization. I am referring to the Mayan Civilization. It started first in South and Central America. Today’s Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras and parts of Belize and Guatemala were ruled by the Mayans.

Mayan population was around 1 million. It is believed to have been the only civilization in the Americas which had their own script.
